Barreiro has another bike pathWith the opening of the Riverside Boardwalk Augusto Cabrita, last Monday, July 13, the list of options of paths for bikes was thickened to 740 meters. With a total of 1700 meters of paths for bicycles.
The existing paths in the municip have a further alternative mobility, physical activity and recreation available to the population, with the objective to promote healthier lifestyles.

Existing bike paths:

The Riverside Boardwalk Augusto Cabrita
This bike path, with a length of 740 meters, goes along side the Riverside Boardwalk Augusto Cabrita.
Inauguration: July 13, 2009.
Characterization of Route: This route has the dual functionality of mobility and recreation. Being designed to integrate in a space that includes a green area and a panoramic view over the Tagus River, this route arouses a great potential landscape. The use of the promenade incorporating a bicycle path- Walk Augusto Cabrita – is only given to pedestrians, bicycles and other gentle ways of travel, which will lead to the incorporation of a class of high security.

The bike path the Riverside Boardwalk Augusto Cabrita has a traffic lane on wet tarmac color ( “Neoasfalto” dark red) with an average width of 2.5 meters, which allow movement in both directions.

Machinho Quinta – Quinta da Lomba
Start: Rua José Saramago (near the entrance to East City Park).
End: Park Avenue (near the intersection with Rua Afonso de Albuquerque).
Length: 0.53 km.
Inauguration: August 8, 2005.
Characterization of the Course: For the most part, parallel to the top of the Parque da Cidade do Barreiro, providing excellent panoramic view of the green spot. Functionally allows the connection between the urban areas of Quinta do Machinho and Quinta da Lomba.
The route (with a width of 2.5 meters) develops in a flat area. This is a two-way bike path, built on wet tarmac color (“Neoasfalto” dark red).

Avenida da Liberdade
Start: Liberty Avenue (near the parking lot of the Multimodal Interface Barreiro).

End: Liberty Avenue (just after the junction with the Avenue of the Bocage).
Length: 0.43 km.
Inauguration: February 10, 2008.
Characterization of the walk: It is developed in parallel to Avenida da Liberdade and the River Coina. You are in a target area of shoreline restructuring scheme under the POLIS project, which provides a qualitative increase in the level of its environmental and landscape.
The average width of 3.5 meters means it can be traveled in both directions. This bike path is marked appropriately, both vertically and in terms of markings on the floor, and the finishing material in shale color (“Neoasfalto” red).

Extensions Projected:
It is proposed to continue this bike path in the area of POLIS connecting to the City Park, with an extension of approximately one kilometer.
Other Information:
It is intended in future to connect this to the existing bike lane on Park Avenue (bike path-Machinho Quinta Quinta da Lomba), in order to establish a cycling route that links some solid strategic centers of this city.
